Chemical Properties:

This product is a white crystalline solid. Melting point 178–179℃, soluble in water and alcohol, hygroscopic. It gradually turns yellow upon exposure to light or air. Uses: This product is used for polarographic analysis.

Production Method:

Equimolar amounts of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine and iodomethane are added to a reaction vessel, followed by methanol as solvent, and the mixture is stirred to dissolve. The mixture is slowly heated to a gentle boil, refluxed for half an hour, and then transferred to a distillation vessel to remove the methanol. The residue is recrystallized to obtain purified trimethylbenzylammonium iodide.
