Chemical properties

Colorless to light yellow oily liquid with sweet and light floral aroma. Soluble in 720 times water, miscible in most organic solvents. Boiling point 183°C, melting point -70°C.

Uses

2-Ethylhexanol can be used to produce plasticizers, defoamers, dispersants, mineral processing agents and petroleum additives. It is also used in printing and dyeing, paints, films, etc.

Production method:

Acetaldehyde is condensed into butanol aldehyde, dehydrated to obtain crotonaldehyde, hydrogenated to obtain n-butyraldehyde, condensed and dehydrated to obtain 2-ethyl-2-hexenal, and then hydrogenated to obtain.
