3-Methoxypropylamine (MOPA) is a widely used primary amine compound. It serves primarily as a mineral flotation agent, offering superior selectivity for iron ore flotation compared to conventional surfactants. Additionally, MOPA acts as a key intermediate in the synthesis of dyes such as Disperse Turquoise Blue S-GL and is extensively used in metal corrosion inhibitor formulations, typically constituting 5–15% of the total formulation mass. The growing adoption of corrosion inhibitors in the petrochemical industry positions MOPA for promising future applications.
It is primarily used in the synthesis of dyes—specifically Disperse Turquoise Blue S-GL (Disperse Blue 60)—as well as antistatic agents and surfactants; it also serves as a high-grade organic solvent. Production method: A condensation reaction involving an alkenyl nitrile, a monohydric alcohol, and ammonia is carried out under specific temperature and pressure conditions to yield 3-alkoxypropionitrile, which is subsequently subjected to catalytic hydrogenation to produce the corresponding alkoxypropylamine.
