Introduction
4-methyl-2-pentanone (methyl isotetramethicone) reagent is widely used as a solvent in chemical and pharmaceutical industries, separation and recovery of nuclear fission products, and scientific research experiments. The 4-methyl-2-pentanone sold on the market has a content of ≤99%, which contains a small amount of alcohol and chemical substances. 4-methyl-2-pentanone is used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, paint, and certain solvents and resins, and is also used as a reactant for the synthesis of 2-(1-toluene-3-methylbutyl starch)-1h-indene-1,3(2H)-dione.
Chemical properties
This product is a colorless transparent liquid with a camphor odor, m.p.-80℃, b.p.117~118℃, n20D1.3960, relative density 0.801, f.p.56℉(13℃)Chemicalbook, almost insoluble in water, but can form an azeotrope with water, its boiling point is 87.9℃, containing 24.3% water and 75.7% ketone, and can be miscible with organic solvents such as phenol, aldehyde, ether, benzene, etc. This product is toxic, and its vapor irritates the eyes and respiratory tract.
Uses:
This product is an excellent medium-boiling point solvent. It is used as a mineral processing agent, a solvent for oil dewaxing, a color film coloring agent, a solvent for tetracycline, pyrethroids and DDT, an adhesive, rubber glue, and a paint for airplanes and models. It is also an effective separation agent for some inorganic salts, and can separate plutonium from uranium, niobium from tantalum, and zirconium from hafnium. Its peroxide is a very important initiator in the polymerization reaction of polyester resins. It is also used in the organic synthesis industry. It can also be used as an anticoagulant and diluent for ethylene resins.
