Chlorobenzene, also known as chlorobenzene, is a colorless, transparent liquid. It is volatile and has a benzene odor and a slight anesthetic effect. This product can form explosive mixtures with air, with explosion limits of 1.83%–9.23% (volume fraction). The chlorine atoms in this product can be hydrolyzed to prepare phenol; hydrolysis in ammonia solution can prepare aniline.
Chlorobenzene has applications in dyes, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and organic synthesis as an intermediate; it can also be used to manufacture phenol, nitrochlorobenzene, aniline, and the insecticide DDT. It is also used in the production of solvents, rubber additives, paints, quick-drying inks, and dry cleaning agents. Chemically, it is a colorless, transparent, volatile liquid with an almond odor. It is soluble in most organic solvents but insoluble in water. Uses: Chlorobenzene is used as an analytical reagent and organic solvent, and also in organic synthesis. Applications: Chlorobenzene is used in the production of pesticides such as trichlorfon and DDT, and in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and other organic chemical products. It is also used as a solvent for ethyl cellulose and many resins, and in the production of various intermediates, such as p-dichlorobenzene, p-chlorobenzenesulfonic acid, 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene, o-nitrochlorobenzene, p-nitrochlorobenzene, and nitrophenol. Uses: Solvent, in the manufacture of phenols, aniline, DDT, dyes, etc., and as a heat transfer medium.
