Applications:
DMA18 is used in the daily chemical industry to produce hair conditioners, synthetic intermediates for anti-static agents, etc.
The production method involves the condensation of octadecylamine, formaldehyde, and formic acid. First, octadecylamine is added to a reactor and stirred evenly in an ethanol medium. Formic acid is added while the temperature is controlled at 50-60℃. After stirring for several minutes, formaldehyde is added at 60-65℃ (Chemicalbook temperature). The temperature is raised to 80-83℃ and refluxed for 2 hours. The mixture is then neutralized with liquid alkali to achieve a pH greater than 10. After standing and separating into layers, water is removed, and ethanol is removed by vacuum distillation. After cooling, N,N-dimethyloctadecylamine is obtained.
