Description of the morphology of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO):
Appearance: Colorless, transparent or slightly yellowish liquid.
Odor: Odorless or almost odorless.
Hygroscopicity: It has strong hygroscopicity and can absorb more than 70% of its own weight of water.
Solubility: It can be mixed with water and ethanol at will, and is insoluble in alkanes. Its 2.16% aqueous solution is isotonic with plasma.
Other characteristics: The freezing point of the aqueous solution is very low, and the freezing point of water can be lowered to -80 degrees at a concentration of 60%. It has a wide solubility range and can dissolve water-soluble, fat-soluble and many drugs that are difficult to dissolve in other solvents. It is known as the “universal solvent”.
DMSO is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature. It has unique physical and chemical properties, which makes it widely used in many fields.
Uses of dimethyl sulfoxide (chemical product):
Solvent and reaction medium: As a polar aprotic solvent, it can dissolve a variety of organic compounds and is widely used as a solvent and reaction medium in organic synthesis.
Pharmaceutical Applications:
Anti-inflammatory and analgesic: It has significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and can be used to treat inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and gout and relieve pain.
Promote drug penetration: Because of its permeability, it helps drugs penetrate into the human body and is often used as a drug carrier or diluent.
Industrial Applications:
Dyeing and recycling: used as dyeing solvent, dye remover for synthetic fibers and absorbent for recovering acetylene and sulfur dioxide.
Others: It is also used in synthetic fiber wet spinning solvents, thermoplastic high-strength polysulfone solvents, and pharmaceutical synthetic paint fuels.
Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, dimethyl sulfoxide has shown broad application prospects in many fields.
