Dodecylamine is a cationic collector, the molecular formula is CH3(CH2)11NH2, refractive index: 1.4421 (20ºC). Dodecylamine is soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, and slightly soluble in water. It is prepared by reacting dodecanoic acid with ammoni to generate dodeconitrile, and then hydrogenating it to enamine through catalytic pressurization and further reducing it.
Dodecylamine neutralizes acids in an exothermic reaction to form salts and water. It may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, acid anhydrides and acid halides. Combination with strong reducing agents such as hydrides may produce flammable gaseous hydrogen.
Dodecylamine has the following applications/functions:
1. Dodecylamine can be used in detergents, pesticides, emulsifiers, skin disinfectants, organic synthesis intermediates, and it is used in the production of textile and rubber auxiliaries. Dodecylamine can also be used to prepare ore flotation agents, dodecyl quaternary ammonium salts, and disinfectant special agents for preventing skin burns, nourishing body fluids, and antibacterial.
2. Dodecylamine is used to prepare novel surfactant copper(II) complexes. It is used as a catalyst and template in sol-gel processes for the fabrication of monodisperse mesoporous bioactive glass submicron spheres.
3. The intercalation of dodecylamine in the kaolinite layer space was investigated. Dodecylamine was studied as an inhibitor corrosion of mild steel.
4. Dodecylamine, as a modifier for preparing dodecylamine, was mixed with sodium montmorillonite. Dodecylamine is used as an adsorbent for hexavalent chromium.
5. For the synthesis of DDA-poly(aspartic acid), dodecylamine was used as a biodegradable water-soluble polymer material.
6. Dodecylamine is used as organic surfactant in the synthesis of Sn(IV)-containing layered double hydroxides (LDHs), and can be further used as ion exchanger, absorbent, ion conductor and catalyst.
7. Dodecylamine is used as complexing agent, reducing agent and capping agent in the synthesis of pentagonal silver nanowires.
