Ethylene glycol, also known as glycol, is the simplest aliphatic diol. It has the chemical properties of alcohols, such as the ability to generate ethers and esters, can be oxidized to generate aldehydes or acids, and can condense to generate ethers.
Appearance: colorless, transparent, viscous liquid。
Uses: Ethylene glycol is mainly used as a raw material for polyester fibers and is also used in other polyester resins, unsaturated polyester resins, and 1730 polyester paints. Various types of surfactants can be derived from ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol. Its dinitro compound, dinitroethylene glycol, is an explosive. Ethylene glycol can lower the freezing point of aqueous solutions and is therefore often used as an antifreeze.
