Nitrogenated tallow amine has a weak, pungent ammonia odor, is poorly soluble in water, but readily soluble in chloroform, ethanol, ether, and benzene. It is alkaline and reacts with acids to form the corresponding amine salts. Hydrogenated tallow amine is an important intermediate in nutritional and amphoteric chemical ionic surfactants, widely used in the flotation of minerals such as zinc oxide, lead ore, mica, ferrous sulfate, potassium chloride, and potassium phosphate. It is also used as a raw material for surfactants, detergents, flotation agents, and fertilizer anti-caking agents.
