Physical and chemical properties: N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine is a colorless or light yellow oily liquid with a smell of rotten eggs. It has a melting point of 130.31°C, a boiling point of 211.5-212.5°C Chemicalbook, and a gravity of 0.9287~0.9366g/mL at room temperature. The refractive index is 1.5360~1.5470, insoluble in water, soluble in some organic solvents, and decomposes when exposed to light.

Product description: N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine is soluble in some organic solvents and decomposes when exposed to light. It acts as an effective photoinitiator for the polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN); it can also be used to make self-curing dental tray water.

Application: As an effective photoinitiator for the polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN), its polymerization speed is proportional to the 1.62 power of the AN concentration and the 0.62 power of the DMT concentration. The product is usually used as an accelerator, and can also be used as an additive for the synthesis of unsaturated polyesters and adhesives.

Synthesis method: Using dimethyl sulfate as a methylating agent, N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine was synthesized under low temperature and normal pressure.

Uses:

1)Used to make self-curing dental tray water

2)A tertiary amine that can be combined with phenylacetylene and benzamide in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide for iron-catalyzed oxidation of CC Chemicalbook to form N,4-dimethyl-N-(3 -Phenylprop-2-ynyl)anizone and N-((methyl(p-tolyl)amino)methyl)benzamide.
