N,N-dimethylaniline is a light yellow to light brown oily liquid. There is an irritating odor. It is soluble in ethanol, chloroform, ether and aromatic organic solvents, and slightly soluble in water.

Use

Used for manufacturing spices, pesticides, dyes, explosives, etc.

Production method:

It is obtained from the reaction of aniline and methanol in the presence of sulfuric acid under high temperature and high pressure. Raw material consumption quota: aniline 790kg/t, methanol 625kg/t, sulfuric acid 85kg/t. A laboratory preparation can be made by reacting aniline with trimethylphosphate.
