Chemical properties White waxy solid crystal, alkaline. Soluble in chloroform, soluble in ethanol, ether and benzene, slightly soluble in acetone, insoluble in water. Use as a color forming agent for making color photos, as a raw material for resins, emulsifiers, fungicides, surfactants and textile auxiliaries. Use as an intermediate for organic synthesis, for the production of octadecane quaternary amine salt and various auxiliaries. For example, cationic grease thickeners, mineral processing agents, pesticides and asphalt emulsifiers, fabric antistatic agents, softeners, wet Chemicalbook lubricants and water repellents, surfactants, fungicides, color film formers, corrosion inhibitors for oil refining units. Octadecyl diethanolamine [10213-78-2] can be obtained by reacting octadecyl diethanolamine with ethylene oxide at a molar ratio of 1:2 at 150-190ºC with a yield of nearly 80%.
