Tert-butyl Hydroperoxide (TBHP) is the most commonly used alkyl hydrogen organic peroxide. The product is generally a light yellow transparent non-volatile liquid, slightly soluble in water and miscible with organic solvents. Chemicalbook Butyl hydroperoxide is mainly used as an initiator for free radical reactions or polymerization reactions in industry. Compared with the decomposition products of most other initiators, which are acidic, the decomposition products of TBHP are tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and a small amount of acetone, which are non-corrosive to equipment, so the requirements for the device are not high.
Applications
Tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBPH) is one of the most commonly used tert-alkyl hydroperoxides. It can be used in emulsion polymerization, aqueous polymerization, curing and graft polymerization. Its performance in many aspects is superior to that of peroxydisulfate, cumene hydroperoxide and benzoyl peroxide. The decomposition products of TBHP are mainly tert-butyl alcohol and a small amount of acetone, which are non-corrosive and have low requirements on equipment. It is also widely used as a polymerization initiator for styrene, acrylic acid and methacrylic acid. At the same time, it is a vulcanizing agent for natural rubber, which can be used to improve the cetane number of diesel and a very important organic synthesis intermediate.
