Overview:

Triethylamine (molecular formula: C6H15N), also known as N,N-diethylethylamine, is the simplest homo-trisubstituted tertiary amine and has the typical properties of tertiary amines, including salt formation, oxidation, and the Hingsburg properties of triethylamine. Test (Hisbergreaction) no response. It appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with a strong ammonia odor. Chemicalbook smokes slightly in the air. Boiling point: 89.5℃, relative density (water = 1): 0.70, relative density (air = 1): 3.48, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether. Aqueous solutions are alkaline. It is flammable, and its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air, with an explosion limit of 1.2% to 8.0%. Toxic, highly irritating.

The preparation method can be obtained by chemically reacting ethanol and ammonia in the presence of hydrogen in a reactor equipped with a copper-nickel-clay catalyst under heating conditions (190±2°C and 165±2°C). The reaction will also produce monoethylamine and diethylamine. After condensation, the product is sprayed with ethanol and absorbed to obtain crude triethylamine. Finally, after separation, dehydration and fractionation, pure triethylamine is obtained.

Triethylamine can be used as a solvent and raw material in the organic synthesis industry. It can be used as catalyst for preparing phosgene polycarbonate, polymerization inhibitor of tetrafluoroethylene, rubber vulcanization accelerator, special solvent in paint remover Chemicalbook, enamel anti-hardening agent, surfactant, preservative, bactericide, Ion exchange resins, dyes, spices, drugs, high-energy fuels and liquid rocket propellants, etc.
